BERLIN, 21. June, 26
An innovative project: the existing restaurant owners, shops, bakeries… all these establishments are, in my view, extraordinary — and in that way, a piece of Berlin itself. Many of the people who are active here in Berlin are eager to showcase their culinary and baking arts in unusual, distinctive ways. What a wonderful idea to bring them all together at one dinner, and in doing so, to truly honor and celebrate what they do.
Andrea, guest
TASTE THE DISTRICT shows just how essential eating and culinary culture is to Berlin:  the city’s heartbeat, places for people to come together, joining in one language all at once. When a table is set as colorfully as the city itself, you can really feel what makes Berlin special: diversity, openness, and creativity. This event brings not just joy and pleasure, but a driving force for tourists, allowing them to experience the neighborhood in a new way.

Taste The District — A Berlin Dining Experience in Five Acts took place on the evening of the longest day of the year in the heart of Berlin-Schöneberg, and was met with an enthusiastic response from guests and community alike. Conceived and produced by Kit Schulte and funded by the Bezirksamt Tempelhof-Schöneberg through the City Tax, with support from the Senatsverwaltung für Wirtschaft, Energie und Betriebe and VisitBerlin, the event brought together 100 guests at a spectacular long communal table stretching across the square. Over the course of five dramaturgically crafted acts, we curated this event with donation from local restaurants, bakeries, market vendors, and producers from the Winterfeldtmarkt, and presented a multi-course experience dinner to celebrate the culinary and cultural diversity of the neighborhood. The evening was officially opened by Bezirksbürgermeister Jörn Oltmann, whose presence underscored the event's significance as a flagship initiative for community building and local tourism.

The event was widely praised for its warmth, creativity, and genuine sense of togetherness. Guests — a lively mix of Berlin residents and international visitors — experienced food not merely as sustenance but as storytelling: from artisan breads hung on sculptural racks with handwritten cards narrating their origins, to abstract vegetable platters served with pipettes to explore the five tastes, to a finale of colorfully wrapped Schöneberg sweets. The interactive food-design elements sparked spontaneous conversation and laughter across the long table, embodying exactly what Taste The District set out to create: an authentic Berlin experience where strangers become neighbors, and a neighborhood becomes a story worth telling.

THe Story Behind

With a clear vision in mind, Kit Schulte approached Helen Herold in 2025, and a creative journey that would enrich the neighborhood in a special way began. Kit, full of energy, experience, and a passion for extraordinary culinary experiences,  that spark the senses and bring people together.

Helen Herold, developer and commissioner for the district’s economic and touristic department, was immediately inspired. Promoting neighborhood tourism with freshly injected impulses, centering the district on the map with creative event ignited Helen's enthusiasm and drew her deeply into Kit’s vision of a experience dinner for 100 people right in the middle of Winterfeldtplatz!
